OUR HISTORY

Dance Vibez was born when 2 sisters, Laura and Kim, wanted to combine their love for dance and teaching with their desire to run their own business.

Coming from a family of teachers and a Dad who ran retail outlets across the country for years, Laura and Kim, always had business at the forefront of their mind. After dancing all their life – competing at the highest level – and also helping teach others from a young age it seemed only right after University that they opened their own dance school.

“We wanted to be current and relevant and we believe we stood out as we were both still dancing ourselves with Kim being part of performance group SHE! and then later with Goblynz. With momentum building and competition success under our belts we set our sights on having our own dance studio. Although not quite like the one in ‘Strictly Ballroom’ with the large Coca Cola sign above that had been a childhood dream, after 10 years the dream was realised and Vibe Studios was born.

Since having the studio we have been lucky enough to have big names such as Rob Rich, Amari Marshall and Greg Chapkis teach in our studios and have continued to bring home numerous Scottish and World Titles year after year.

Our studio has allowed us to expand our teaching team and our curriculum so we can offer an all round versatile training and we now had several students who have gone onto further their studies at Dance College.

Over the years Dance Vibez has been a step ahead with uniform. Combining our love for fashion we have developed our own clothing brand for both Dance Vibez and Vibe Studios which has gotten us a lot of attention at competitions and events and has been worn by big names across the globe!”

OUR STUDIOS

Dance Vibez has purpose built studios in Glencryan Road in Cumbernauld. There is one large studio which is around 1400 sq ft and one smaller studio which is around 500 sq ft. There is also a large reception area and private kitchen and bathrooms.

“We have given names to our studios and paid homage to the famous dance halls in Glasgow where our Grandparents met. The larger studio is called The Palais named after the Denny Palais – the largest dance hall in Glasgow where one set of grandparents met – and the smaller studio is called The Locarno, named after the hall whish sat proudly in Sauchiehall Street for many years where our other grandparents met.”

OUR TRIBE

Dance Vibez has an amazing team of teachers and assistant teachers. All teachers specialise in different areas of dance which means the students receive the highest standard of teaching in that style.

All of the assistant teachers have years of dancing experience. In fact all the assistant teachers have attended the school for a number of years and have now been given the chance to help teach and pass their knowledge on to younger students.

Here are some fun facts about the Team – what we like to call “Our Tribe”.

Our Trix teacher Matt appeared in the finals of Got to Dance on Channel 5 as part of the group Antics and wowed the judges with his dancing and his flips.

Our Advanced Street and Choreo teacher Lebe features regularly in theatre shows across Scotland and is currently rehearsing for a show in The Tramway.

One of our principals, Kim, competed herself at the Scottish Championships in the advanced category with her crew SHE! and Maijaluk.

Our assistant teachers Alix and Holly were crowned UDO World Street Dance Champions in the U14 Advanced category in 2017.

Laura was undefeated for 5 years in the Scottish Medalist Freestyle circuit when she was younger.

OUR DANCERS

Dance Vibez dancers have taken part in a number of large scale and very prominent events over the years giving them a platform not only to compete at the highest level but also to perform on the big stages.

They have competition crews who have won numerous Scottish, British, European and World Champion titles.
“If you want to compete with us and be part of one of our award winning crews then we offer auditions to our existing students once a year. Keep an eye out on the page for our next audition dates. The key element for all competitors is commitment. If a student is committed to working hard, attending the classes and the competitions on our schedule then we can do the rest – we can give them the skills needed to be a valued member of the team!”

If you attend any of the weekly classes then you will be given the chance to take part in an annual production. In 2022 this will be held over two nights in the Mitchell Theatre in Glasgow.

All students are also offered the chance to take dance exams. Dance vibez staff are qualified to put forward students for ID Company, Acrotrix, UDO and UKA exams. “Exams take place on an annual basis and are optional for all students but we feel they are important as they give them the chance to work towards something and be rewarded for that hard work.”

Dance Vibez have had some BIG names in their studios teaching workshops including Rob Rich, Greg Chapkis, Frankie J and Amari Marshall. “We will continue to bring top industry professionals to our studios and students can choose to take workshops with them and learn from the very best.”

They have also provided a platform for their students to have the opportunity to perform in different environments from charity balls to music videos.

Here are some of their highlights from the past 5 years –
